These hit Job all at once, including the sudden loss of all his children. When the whirlwind of external forces whip life around until it\u2019s unrecognizable, we\u2019re likely to experience fear, anxiety, acute pain, and deep sorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Job\u2019s world completely fell apart, his livestock\u2014a kind of 401K\u2014and loved ones suddenly wiped out. In his book, The Bible Jesus Read<\/em>, Philip Yancey calls Job\u2019s experience \u201ca cosmic drama.\u201d Job felt life\u2019s devastation just as we might: agony, confusion, misery. Rather than stoically denying his emotions during his trials, Job expressed his grief the way others might have in his time. He tore his clothes, shaved his head, and fell to the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Yet Job also acknowledged God\u2019s gifts and praised Him. He had plenty of questions, and later took them directly to God. But in this section of Job 1 and 2 he refuses to blame the Creator for the devastation all around him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Read<\/strong> through Job 1:1-22<\/a> and Job 2:1-10<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Promising his disciples an Advocate and peace amid turmoil, Jesus said, \u201cIn this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world\u201d<\/em> (John 16:7<\/a>,33<\/a>).
